About us

History

Formed in 1993 as the Wolfville Community Mediation Society with John Star as its founding President, the organization was incorporated pursuant to the Societies Act (Nova Scotia) on February 25th, 1994. A change of name to Valley Community Mediation Society occurred on July 7th, 1996 as our membership and work had spread across the Annapolis Valley. Due to further growth a second name change to Peacemakers An Association for Alternative Dispute Resolution took place on August 17th, 2000. The next decade saw the group involved in numerous mediations, workshops and training sessions as well as public education. For over 20 years we have been mediating disputes for people and organizations and training them to manage conflict themselves. We have helped thousands of people reach a peaceful agreement quickly, confidentially and without the need for formal action.

Peacemakers-An Association for Alternative Dispute Resolution is a registered charity operating in the Province of Nova Scotia, Canada. Our charitable registration # is 891064149RR0001. At present, the Society is a single organization with no sub-organizations. It has the usual organization of a Board of Directors and members.

Our Team

As the Executive Director of Peacemakers: Association for Alternative Dispute Resolution, I am deeply honored to lead our team dedicated to promoting reconciliation and peace. Our team consists of experienced mediators, professionals with legal backgrounds, and seasoned counselors, who together serve others with professional expertise and Christ's love.

We believe that through professional mediation and counseling, people can find pathways to reconciliation amid conflict and rebuild relationships with the love and wisdom of Christ. Currently, we have partnered with various churches and organizations to establish a network of mediation and counseling centers, providing professional, empathetic, and biblically-based services to individuals in the community. Whether dealing with family disputes, workplace conflicts, or interpersonal challenges, we aspire to serve the community more deeply, bringing healing, peace, and blessing, so that more lives may experience restoration and renewal.
